CEDARBURG SCIENCE STAFF - SELECTED PROJECT EXPERIENCE
The following projects
are provided as examples of our project experience with natural area
evaluation, wetland assessment, stewardship planning and permitting.
Stewardship Plan, Legacy Hills Conservation
Subdivision, Mequon, WI - Provided a habitat assessment and
developed a Stewardship Plan (Open Space Management Plan) for a 77-acre
conservation subdivision development. Provided recommendations for
enhancement and restoration of natural features in the Open Space.
Open Space Management Plan, Tree Survey,
Residential Subdivision, City of Delafield, WI - Provided a
habitat assessment, tree survey and developed an Open Space Management
Plan for a 15-acre planned subdivision development. Provided
recommendations for management, enhancement and restoration of natural
features in the Open Space.
Open Space Management Plan, Wetlands
Assessment/Permitting, Phase I Environmental Assessment, Newcastle Place,
Mequon, WI - Provided site reconnaissance, regulatory research,
and review of historic ownership and use. Conferred with client and
project partners (engineers, developers, brokers, etc.) regarding
environmental risk issues. The wetlands permitting and mitigation planning
is in progress. Project requires liaison with the Wisconsin Department of
Natural Resources, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, applicable Ozaukee
County departments, and the City of Mequon (City Forester, Tree Board,
Common Council, Plan Commission, City Engineer). Developed Natural
Area/Open Space Plan to demonstrate client's desire to meet and exceed
City of Mequon planning and zoning boards' vision to preserve, protect and
enhance a ten-acre woodlot and wetland area. The Plan included readily
achievable enhancement measures such as habitat restoration, nature trail
development and installation of a Bluebird Trail.
Ulao Creek, River Protection and Restoration
Project (WDNR Grant) - Ms. Plumeau is the Senior Project
Coordinator for this two-year program to characterize the habitats, flora
and fauna, and certain aspects of the hydrology of the Ulao Creek
Watershed system, including Ulao Swamp. The overall goal was to develop a
meaningful Land Use Plan for use by citizens and public officials. The
work was a cooperative effort between the UWM Field Station, (Cedarburg
Bog), the Ozaukee County Land Conservation Department, the Ozaukee
Washington Land Trust, the Wisconsin DNR and the Ulao Creek Partnership.
Restoration demonstration plots were developed and for monitoring in
several locations. Cedarburg Science headed up Herptile Surveys, managed
projects to control and eradicate purple loosestrife using biocontrol
measures; planned tamarack-white cedar swamp forest restoration
activities, including public education outreach.
Wetland Consulting, St. Francis/Lake Michigan
Bluff Site - St. Francis, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin - Wetland
delineation and permit consultation for seven-acre development site on
Lake Michigan bluff land.
CCRC Development - Cook County, IL -
Natural areas identification and planning; wetland delineation,
verification and permitting for 100-acre development site. Actively
involved with development team to develop site layout plans that
incorporate "conservation development" features and amenities.
Wetland Assessment, Permitting and Natural
Resource Planning - Des Plaines River Site, Kenosha County, WI
- Served as a key team member to delineate a site located along the Des
Plaines River in Kenosha County, Wisconsin. She conducted a field survey,
flagged wetland boundaries, and assisted in obtaining Department of the
Army, St. Paul District Corps of Engineers concurrence.
Land and Water Resource Management Plan,
Milwaukee County, WI - Ms. Plumeau served as the Senior Project
Manager in preparation of the goals, objectives, timeframe, and budget of
the Land and Water Resource Management Plan for Milwaukee County. In
writing and compiling the Plan, Ms. Plumeau worked in coordination with
the Milwaukee County Department of Public Works - Environmental Services
Division (Land and Water Conservation Department), the Southeast Wisconsin
Regional Planning Commission (SEWRPC), the Department of Agriculture,
Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), and the Wisconsin Land and Water
Conservation Association. The Plan sets forth the County's goals and
objectives to reduce nonpoint sources of pollution and to protect its land
and water resources.
Lake Michigan Basin, Wisconsin, Wastewater
Treatment Monitoring Study - Ms. Plumeau serves as the Project
Coordinator for an eight-county study on dairy milkhouse waste for the
Great Lakes Nonpoint Abatement Coalition (a non-profit organization made
up of thirty county Land and Water Conservation Departments, Wisconsin
Department of Natural Resources and other government agencies). Five of
the sites are in Ozaukee County. The on-going study will determine whether
organic filter systems reduce agricultural nonpoint source contaminants.
The program is a collaborative research effort involving the Wisconsin DNR,
Wisconsin Land Conservation Departments, the USDA Natural Resource
Conservation Service (NRCS), the Department of Agriculture and Consumer
Protection (DATCP), and the University of Wisconsin - Extension. Ms.
Plumeau has coordinated the development of the workplan, sampling plan,
site selection, and installation of treatment systems for wastewater,
installation of monitoring devices, sampling, data tabulation and
reporting. She also handles the presentation of findings to agencies,
granting partners, dairy farmers and organizations interested in water
quality issues regarding the Great Lakes. The results of the study will be
used to develop a new Best Management Practice in accordance with the
stringent requirements of the Standards Oversight Council (SOC) in
Wisconsin. 1999-2002.

Natural Resource Planning and Management - Wetlands Delineation,
Permitting, Mitigation and Enhancement Planning, Cook County, IL
- Provided pre-development Wetlands Delineation and Mapping of marshes,
flatwoods (wet woodlands) and open water ponds. This project involved
permitting and mitigation planning and was strongly geared to reduction of
impacts by applying stringent avoidance and minimization of impacts in the
planning process. The work involved frequent planning meetings with the
architects, planners and regulators to develop strategies to preserve the
natural resources of the site and to develop and enhance these areas for
passive recreational opportunities.
Milwaukee Public Museum, Cedar Lake - Survey for
State - Threatened Blanding’s Turtles - Radio-tracked
turtles, conducted habitat assessments (hydrology/vegetation); trapped and
tagged turtles; and monitored important pregnant female individual.
Wetland Permitting, Cook County, IL -
Provided field reconnaissance to determine concurrence with previous
delineation; submitted Pre-construction Notification package to Corps of
Engineers.
35 Acre Site, Natural Resource Evaluation,
Ozaukee County, WI - Conducted a survey on 35 acres in the Town
of Cedarburg, Ozaukee County to determine the potential presence of
significant natural resources (wetlands, endangered species, etc.) prior
to site development. The report was prepared for use by a municipality to
decide re-zoning and subdivision matters.
88 Acres Wetland Evaluation - Kane County, IL
- Conducted a survey for the potential presence of wetlands at an
undeveloped site in Aurora, Illinois. Ms. Plumeau prepared a report of
Preliminary Wetland Evaluation, including recommendations for appropriate
actions if development activities were to be engaged. The research and
inquiry for the study required extensive contact with local and state
regulatory agencies.
Habitat Assessment, Stewardship Plan, and Chapter
30 Application for Hawks Landing, Mequon, WI - Performed a
detailed evaluation of an 113-acre planned conservation development while
examining the diverse habitats, vegetation, and wildlife species
inhabiting the site. Created a management plan for the various wetland
communities, hedgerows and woodlands, open meadows, ponds, and new
landscaping. Provided recommendations for preservation, management, and
enhancement of the natural attributes. Created a plan for the homeowner’s
association to aid in maintenance of the natural areas with an emphasis on
quality and sustainability. Submitted a Chapter 30 permit application and
addendum to WDNR
96-Acre Habitat Assessment, Wetland Delineation,
Restoration Design, and Land-Use Stewardship Plan, Hidden River, Fredonia,
WI - Assessed the habitat & plant communities of a 96-acre site
including an Isolated Natural Resource Area, Primary Environmental
Corridor, and wetlands adjacent to the Milwaukee River in northern Ozaukee
County. Compiled a comprehensive plant and wildlife inventory found within
various wetland plant communities, maple-beech forest, and an intermittent
stream tributary corridor. Conducted field data collection and prepared a
wetland delineation report submitted to the US Army Corps of Engineers and
WI Department of Natural Resources. Assisting in the design of lakeshore
enhancement and stabilization as well as restoration of two wet meadow
plant communities. Preparing a Land-Use Stewardship Plan for the
management of over 70-acres of the site’s planned natural features
including a 24-acre lake, short and tall-grass prairie, two restored
wetlands, and existing wetland & forest habitats.
120-Acre Site Assessment, Wetland Delineation,
Pond Restoration Design, Land-Use Stewardship Plan, Port Washington, WI
- Conducted an extensive survey and delineated over 50 distinct
communities of 15 unique habitat types on a 120-acre parcel in eastern
Ozaukee County. Assessment incorporated a comprehensive investigation of
vegetation, wildlife, soils, hydrology, and topography distinctive to this
property along the shores of Lake Michigan. Delineated and reported on the
associated wetlands surrounding two excavated man-made ponds. The report,
submitted for federal, state, and local agency approval, will support the
incorporation of design features targeted to greatly improve the habitat
for wildlife and expand the vegetative species diversity. Assisting in the
design for restoring the two man-made ponds and a wet meadow plant
community. Developing a Land-Use Stewardship Plan for the long-term
success of the site’s exceptional natural resource features as well as
providing recommendations for the management and restoration of various
wetland and upland habitats.
Habitat Assessment & Stewardship Plan for the
Ponds of Caledonia, Caledonia, WI - Assessed the existing and
planned natural features occurring on a 77-acre conservation residential
development in eastern Racine County. Provided guidelines for managing,
preserving, and sustaining the quality of the natural habitat. Provided a
cumulative list of all observed vegetation and wildlife while classifying
the various upland and wetland vegetative communities occurring at the
site.
Habitat Assessment, Stewardship Plan, Wetland
Delineation & Permitting, and Environmental Assessment for Clearwater
Lake, Brookfield, WI - Completed a comprehensive assessment at
a 46-acre residential development site in central Waukesha County. The
site assessment incorporated a complete wetland delineation, habitat
assessment of the plant communities and wildlife, a historical review, and
a state listed species inquiry. Created a plan and guidelines for
effectively managing, restoring, and enhancing the land’s natural assets.
Prepared an Environmental Assessment report reviewed by the WI Department
of Natural Resources.
Ecological Inquiry & Assessment for 130-Acre
Site, Polk, WI - Prepared an extensive ecological inquiry
report featuring a field assessment & historical review documenting the
site’s natural amenities including environmental corridors, the headwaters
of a cold water stream tributary to Cedar Creek, a mature yellow birch &
tamarack lowland forest community, an approximate 6-acre lake surrounded
by floodplain forest, and an oak-hickory hardwood forest in central
Washington County.
